The short answer: Open with why the story matters to your audience, then walk a simple structure: context, tension, turn, takeaway. Structure does the remembering so you can do the connecting. Teams practice this live in cohort training.

Research from Kahneman highlights the idea of “System 1 thinking,” the brain’s fast, intuitive mode that looks for meaning before detail.
Start with Why
When a story starts with why it matters, the brain engages quickly and stays with you through the complexity.
Purpose organizes attention.
Attention drives memory.
Memory spreads stories.
Start with why.
Then unfold the what.
Add key elements, and you have become a great storyteller!
Try this:
Before your next presentation:
1️⃣ Write your story in one sentence starting with “This matters because…”
2️⃣ Share that sentence first.
3️⃣ Then layer in the events that support it.
4️⃣ Notice when your audience leans in.
You don’t need better stories. You need a better structure.
