The Ultimate Fear of Success

People will never rise above the opinion they have of themselves.

What's stopping you from going for it?

Our nervous system is hardwired for comfort, and yet, our soul is hardwired for expansion and growth. Inside that tension lies the ultimate fear of success.

The Mindset of Okay-ness

There's a reason why people reach what feels like a glass ceiling in their career, their income, and their relationships. That ceiling comes from an endless series of tiny comforts, a development of the mindset of Okay-ness.

I'm fortunate to have had a shocking experience of failure my first time on stage that forced me to find a solution.

It's when I get the small pushbacks that I tend not to push through. A soft no, or a "not yet," can leave me with resignation.

One Thing That Scares Me

I have to remind myself every day to do one thing that scares me.

What have you done lately that set your body alight with exhilaration?

After 20+ years of coaching, what I know to be true about communication skills is that we can fall into patterns: "this works with these people, this works in this situation, that works with this content." And yet we all know that what got us to where we are has already done its job. Where we want to be will ask for something we have not built yet.

Where are you getting comfortable in your communication: with your team, with your leaders, with those you serve? What fresh challenges can you take on? Try telling a story, flipping the script or going completely off script!?

For me, sometimes it's being vulnerable and saying the thing that's on my heart, having the difficult conversation that means facing potential conflict. Other times, it means trying again, after the first umpteen times led to failure.

A Delicious Entrapment

As many people know, I am a full-time digital nomad, and the comfort I experience during a longer stay becomes a delicious entrapment. Much like Odysseus's experience on the island of Calypso. One of my favorite lines was Calypso telling him that she knew that his heart was somewhere else.

Odysseus on the shore of Calypso's island. Seven years of paradise, spent looking at the water.

The heart knows that you were destined for more. The heart knows that you were destined to succeed, to be loved, to be honored and valued for all that you bring.

Embrace the Awkward

In my book, I call it 'Embrace the Awkward'; be willing to get messy. Be willing to be seen as imperfect while on your journey to awesome.

In more ways than one, getting my book published has pushed me into 'awkward'. And yet, in less than two months, that's going to be a different reality.

Life is too short to be comfortable. Embrace the thrill of awkward. Live. Be bold!
